EAA Chapter 512 hosts an annual low-cost Private Pilot ground school. The class covers the academic portion of what is needed to obtain a private pilot's license. Successful completion will qualify you to take the FAA Private Pilot written examination, which you must pass before you can take your Private Pilot Airplane Practical Test - i.e., the FAA checkride – for your private pilot's license. The class may be taken independently or in concurrence with flight training. You must take your FAA checkride within 24 calendar months of passing the written exam.
Our ground school class starts in January every year. We meet every Saturday until April. Classes meet at the EAA Hangar at the Placerville Airport. Cost includes an instructor fee of $75 and approximately $75 for materials. If you already have materials (private pilot text book, E6B flight calculator, aviation navigation plotter, and FAA test supplements) and they are reasonably current, you may use those and save about half the cost.
This class is geared to new pilot candidates but is also an excellent refresher for existing or returning pilots.
