EAA Chapter 512

Placerville California (KPVF)

Summer Picnic Meetings

May through October join us for our Potluck Picnic in the EAA Park ~ Last names between A-M side, N-Z desserts. Meat is provided by the chapter.

It has been TRADITIONAL for Chapter 512 to have summer picnic meetings in our park.

The park has expanded from a couple of benches back in the 1980s when the hangar was built by those men in our Chapter who could see the future and wanted it better for the membership. Their vision was to build a solid hangar, have it paid for by hard labor and donations and to have an area where in the members could socialize in the summers. This was achieved nicely.

Today the picnic area has multiple concrete tables and benches (thanks to Past President Don Ide who constructed them) and some wooden ones donated by members. Additionally the trees which were carefully planted to allow proper shade have been nurtured thus giving the desired effect. The pyracantha planted along the fence has taken a setback due to the County plant abatement program and now need to be replanted to provide the division between the street and the people enjoying their socializing.

As well today we have donated propane powered barbecue cookers that serve the needs of the “chefs” (our members of course) during these picnics.

Other thoughts are to extend the length of the picnic area to the East to provide space for more wooden benches (which will have been upgraded) and some lighting improvements for the time change accommodation.

Comments regarding the use of the picnic area are appreciated and welcomed.
