Chapter 475 Freeport Pilots Association

Freeport, Illinois

Lt George L Boyle Mail Run

With the advent of electronic devices from VOR’s to GPS’ basic flying and navigation has taken a backseat to many pilots.  This is an event to help brush up on those seldom used skills.  Named for Lt. George L. Boyle, who in 1918 was the first pilot to deliver airmail from New York to Washington DC, Lt Boyle had to do this in all types of weather with nothing more than a compass and a map.

The event requires that the pilot plan and fly a route to several locations using a aviation map and E6B calculator. (remember those?)  NO electronic devises can be used.  It’s great fun and we all become better pilot’s for doing it.  So join us at our next Lt. George L. Boyle Mail Run. (See event page).
