Wings Fights of Hope - Making Life Better for People in Need
Wings Flights of Hope is a non-profit organization offering free air transportation to people in need of medical care. The organization flies both military and civilian patients to places where specialized care is available for their particular, time-critical or unusual medical problems. They also fly “Compassion Flights” so families can be with their loved ones at far away hospitals. This is all done at no charge to the patients or their families. Pilots donate their time, plane and all expenses.
All this takes a tremendous amount of organization, and Orchard Park native Joe DeMarco Sr. is the man who makes it all happen. Joe’s work has not gone unnoticed, and among his very many awards are awards from the Rotary Foundation, the Lions Club, the Dewitt-Clinton Masonic Award, the Italian of the Year Award, the Humanism Award from the Erie County Sheriff, the Humanitarian Award from Crime Stoppers, and the Heroes of the Week Award from People Magazine Live.
You are invited to attend the EAA Chapter 46 meeting on October 13, 2021 at Lancaster Airport, 4343 Walden Ave in Lancaster when Joe DeMarco Sr. will describe how he started the organization, how he manages it, how it operates, and hear about some of the transport flights he’s flown. If you’re a pilot, you might think about getting involved in providing humanitarian aid right here at home.
The meeting starts at 6:30 PM with Joe’s presentation beginning at 7:00 PM, and is free and open to anyone with an interest in aviation.
