EAA Chapter 289 Scholarships
David Curl Scholarship
The David Curl scholarship was created in his memory by his wife Sheryl. The intent of the fund is to encourage and assist young people between the ages of 14 and 19 to obtain their sport pilot certificate or private pilot certificate. It also is used to send young people to the EAA Air Academy in Oshkosh.
If the scholarship is used for flight training, it will pay one half of the receipts from the student up to but not exceed $1000 each year. All funds paid to students must be approved by the Chapter Board of Directors. If the scholarship is used for the Air Academy, Young Eagle points should be used first and then funds from the David Curl Scholarship Fund. All funds paid to Air Academy recipient’s must be approved by the Chapter BOD. Recipients will write a short request for consideration for help from the scholarship, present it to Chapter 289 and complete an application form furnished by the chapter BOD.
Advanced Scholarship Fund
This fund was recently approved at the April 2016 Chapter 289 Board of Director meeting. The intent of this fund is to assist young people in aviation education not covered by the David Curl Scholarship. It can be used for advanced flight training, A&P training or any other aviation related education that is approved by the Chapter BOD. The scholarship will pay one half of the receipts received from the recipient up to but not to exceed $1000 per year. Recipients will furnish receipts to the Chapter for their consideration. All funds expended must be approved by the Chapter 289 Board of Directors. Consideration will be given as to the applicant’s ability or inability to fund his or her education. Members of Chapter 289 will have the opportunity to contribute directly to the recipient or the scholarship fund. Applicants will furnish written request for scholarship consideration and complete an application form furnished by the Chapter 289 BOD.
