EAA Chapter 280

Spinks Airport (KFWS) Burleson, Texas

Event Calendar

Welcome to EAA Chapter 280's Meeting & Event Schedules

Our next Gathering (Meeting) will be Saturday February 8

With that being said this Saturday looks like Sunny and 84 degrees.  What a great forecast for a meeting for those that plan to fly in or drive in. If you are driving in for the first time there will be a sign with a number to call on the left side of gate 19 which is on hwy 1187 for the entrance to the east side of Spinks.

We will have Vice President Marshall Tyson presenting Survival not of the fittest , but the need to survive in a remote area in the event you are forced to land away from a populated area. Marshall has a great program to share and very beneficial , because this is a subject that is put on the back burner too often. Come with an open mind and ready to listen to this great presentation. Thanks Marshall for putting this presentation together for all of us.
Let's talk lunch!! Chef Marc was preparing for this Saturday's menu when I spoke to him earlier today. He let me know that on the menu this Saturday he will feature Chicken Leg Quarters , slow smoked with Post Oak Wood. Marc is meticulous about the wood he smokes with, the temps he uses , and especially the custom rub that he puts on the meats he is smoking. He always knocks it out of the park on whatever he is preparing.  Also on the menu will be Chef Marc's to die for smoked pinto beans , as well as the coleslaw that will be made fresh in the back of the house.  Save some room for dessert as we will have a dessert on the menu as well.
Marc and I were talking and we are looking at ways to raise funds for the chapter and we are going to offer up customer smoked meats that we will be for sale at the gatherings. Marc is smoking 2 Pork Boston Butts that are 15lbs each that will be available for $100.00 a piece at this meeting.  This is a considerable savings from the market price. This would be great to serve at your superbowl party. 1st come 1st serve. If you are interested, put your order in today or tomorrow because these will be smoked fresh and made to order.
We will round the meeting out with a raffle with some cool prizes give aways. Bring your $5's , $10's , and $20 for the raffle. Thanks for your donations it helps keep the lights on. I look forward to seeing everyone on Saturday and remember to invite a guest, that's how we spread the word about aviation.

ASPIRE TO INSPIRE BEFORE YOU EXPIRE
I look forward to seeing  everyone on Saturday

March 9,2024 Monthly Meeting Gathering :

Happy March everyone, We have our meeting this Saturday March 9. We will be having Marc’s Famous burgers and all the fixings so come hungry and ready to learn from renowned speaker Bob Nuckolls. We will begin eating around noon-ish and cover chapter updates. We are trying to add new items to the chapter that will continue to bring 280 up to date with the times. We need donations over and above the raffle to make a difference, so we appreciate any help that our chapter members can help with. We take all donations and put them back into the chapter. We have t-shirts and coffee mugs that we purchased for the group, so if you don’t have one please purchase a t-shirt and coffee mug. I would like to do a EAA Group picture soon and it would be nice to have everyone wearing our own EAA 280 Shirts. 😊

Gayla will be holding a raffle before we adjourn, we appreciate the participation on that. We could use some additional raffle items for the April meeting.

Come hungry and invite someone and bring a guest, "Growth and Participation is the life blood of the chapter" and it is amazing how many people would like to be involved in aviation but don’t know how to get started!!

Bob Nuckolls Bio

I've been up to my eyeballs in the art and science of electronics since the 4th grade. With the support of the local amateur radio community and some stellar mentors I got a toe-hold in aviation with my first pass at Cessna in 1964 as a tech writer. Retired from Beech in 2006 as Lead Subject Matter Expert in Electrics.

Worked the B&C booth on first trip to OSH in '86 when Long-Ez was 'king'. Questions asked at the booth suggested a need for broader support in aviation electrics. The first chapters of the Aero-Electric Connection were published in '88. Have since sold 20,000+ books and presented dozens of weekend forums in US and Canada.

Worked for every air frame manufacturer in Wichita at least once  . . . one of them 3 times! I still do the occasional consulting job.

See you Saturday!  Bring a Guest !!

May 11,2024 Monthly Gathering Our own Stuart Davis will be presenting at our May Gathering. Stuart is a degreed

engineer and the owner of Auto PSRU. Here is Stuarts Bio and it is a great one !!

 Bio for Stuart Davis

Stuart’s experience with aircraft design and building Experimental aircraft started in 1976
while in college when a class project became the completion of a Fly-Baby. His
experience in the aerospace/defense industries as an engineer started in 1979 after
graduating with a double major in Automotive and in Aerospace technologies. He has
been a member of EAA since 1981. With his many jobs and related moves Stuart and
belonged to 9 EAA Chapters, #88 in Wichita KS, #74 in Orlando FL, #134 in Essex
MD,.#1288 in Valkaria FL, #162 in Nashville TN, #261 in New Orleans LA, 1541#
Savannah GA, #670 Fort Worth TX, and #280 in Burleson TX.
Born in Fort Leonard Wood, MO in 1956 and then growing up in Gladstone MO Stuart
started his mechanic skills with lawnmower engines then moved up to automotive
maintenance in high school. A love for everything in aircraft and aerospace started at 6
years old with building static models and then fly-by-wire models. While in college Stuart
earned a private pilot’s license and graduated in 1979.
After graduating, Stuart’s career led him to working on aircraft, missile systems, electro-
optic weapon systems, satellite systems, and space shuttle components. In addition to
working on his career full time, Stuart continued to pursue his hobbies which included
working on hot rods, swapping V8 engines into Chevy Vegas, MGB GT’s, and boats. As
an active member in many EAA Chapters he also helped friends complete their homebuilt
aircraft. While living in Orlando FL he was also a part-time volunteer at Tom Riley
Aviation and Flying Tigers Museum in Kissimmee FL helping to restore various warbird
projects. Currently, Stuart has a Wheeler Express under construction and plans to install
the BW350 and LS engine combination in it too. Look for it at future aviation events.
One of Stuart’s major interests in experimental aircraft has always been the use of
automotive engines. He has followed the development of both automotive engines,
modifications, and PSRU designs for over 35 years. Bud Warren’s design was the most
successful design fixing all the major problems that have plagued other designs by
solving them with creative yet simple ways, plus holding the promise of a long service life
as well. Under Auto PSRU’s Stuart has taken Bud’s design and features to the next level
with a series of refinements and improvements while continuing to support previous
customers of Geared Drives. Stuart shares many of Bud’s philosophies/beliefs in
providing the same high level of quality parts, services, and support to all customers.
In 2012 Auto PSRU’s took the time needed to get everything transferred from Conroe TX
to our first location on Hicks Airport, then our current location on the Hillsboro Airport
(KINJ). In a new larger hangar he set up, and pick up where the previous company left off

in 2010. A lot has been accomplished since 2012 and we look forward to more future
growth and development.

This is gonna be a great presentation, you will not want to miss this months gathering. Come hungry and bring

a guest!!
