The EAA106 Youth Scholarship pays for:
1 -- The camp's TUITION (covers the above) - after any "Campership*"
2 -- FLIGHT** (any major New England Airport to Appleton, WI)
3 -- $60 towards the baggage FEE (1 bag @ $30 each way)
* = A winner's family MUST apply to EAA for a "CAMPERSHIP" BEFORE MARCH 31 or else our scholarship award is null & void.
An EAA "Campership" is a partial camp fee reduction scholarship. The amount of the "campership" may range from $0 to $1,000 camp fee reduction out of the $1,605 cost (as of 2021). A "Campership" (if any) reduces the cost to EAA Chapter 106 so we can send even more youth the next year.
** = Three notes regarding the flights:
1) EAA Chapter 106 arranges and pays for the round-trip flight. EAA106 will work with each winner and their parent(s) to select the best flight (based on a balance of schedule and cost), but EAA106 books and pays for the flight, not the winner nor parents, unless there is an agreed flight and price.
2) The camp handles the transfer between Appleton airport and the camp on the start (a Tuesday) and end (a Wednesday) dates of the camp.
3) IF the winner wants a later return date (to stay at AirVenture after the camp to see more - forums, hands-on practice for aircraft construction, night airshows, etc), they or their parent must:
a) submit written parental permission if under 18,
b) make & pay for their own lodging arrangements after the camp (some youth have arranged to stay with others from their flight school), and
c) reimburse EAA Chapter 106 the difference in flight cost (the camp ends Wednesday morning, but flights returning from AirVenture later in the week always cost more). EAA Chapter 106 will only pay the cost of a flight for the camp start/end dates.
